Growth Culture explores the restorative potential of support networks through an interpretive visualization of cancer forum conversations. A cellular environment brings exchanges of reassurance, knowledge, and recognition into view, suggesting how care can grow through connection. By reimagining dispersed discussions as a relational landscape, this project asks what becomes perceptible when we step beyond the accumulating stream of messages. Patterns of reciprocity, shared concern, and sustained attention can become difficult to discern under information overload. This shift in perspective also invites a gentler relationship with cellular imagery, often associated with clinical settings or carrying difficult associations through experiences of cancer. Growth Culture invites viewers to recognize the collective structures of support surrounding illness, while preserving space for the complexity of individual experience.

This shift in perspective also opens a way to reclaim cellular imagery, often confined to sterile laboratories or charged with malignancy through cancer’s trauma, as a language of nurture and belonging, while honoring the complexity and ambiguity of individual experiences of living with illness.
